This Brightline construction update provides a look at the first train on Brightline’s new Orlando line between Cocoa and Orlando International Airport. On October 3, 2021, at 5PM sharp, a rail train was moved onto the spur that connects the OUC/CSX Stanton rail line with Brightline's new mainline, officially becoming the first train to use the line.
For first time viewers, check out this video to get up to speed on Brightline's construction progress: • Brightline Orlando - West Palm Beach Compl...
This train was delivering pieces of rail that are 1600ft long apiece, and with 50 pieces onboard, that is enough for 7.5 miles of track! The train was being led by a CSX GP38 since it had to operate over CSX trackage before reaching Brightline’s new line. On the back of the train are two leased GP38 locomotives from GATX which will be operated by contractor RJ Corman on the various work trains. These leased locomotives would then push the train to the end of the trackage.
The rail will be removed from the train on another day and will be used to build a portion of the mainline between Cocoa and Orlando.
