In David Lynch’s Twin Peaks, Garmonbozia is the physical manifestation of human pain, sorrow, fear, and suffering. At the same time, it is a metaphorical substance – a kind of spiritual nourishment consumed by malevolent forces that feed on the emotional and spiritual torment of human beings.

As is often the case with the surreal metaphors in Lynch’s world, it is irrational – something that cannot (and need not) be fully explained, but rather imagined or felt. This idea of a symbolic yet ineffable substance becomes the starting point for a musical world governed by similarly elusive logic.

The musical language reflects this surreal landscape through an unusual constellation of instrumental textures. The ensemble is divided into several sound groups, some of which are altered or augmented in ways that blur the line between the familiar and the foreign: retuned melodicas blend with accordion; strings prepared with styrofoam produce primarily multiphonics; winds are prepared with hunting calls for bears and boars; and additional objects – metal sheets, three-meter-long strings, plastic boxes – are integrated into the fabric of the ensemble.

This piece is not directly connected to Lynch’s universe, but rather to the cryptic yet powerful concept that deepens the exploration of trauma, duality, and the metaphysical struggle between good and evil.
