Duxford VE Day Flying Day 2025 | The Highlights

Kicking off the UK's 2025 air show season was IWM Duxford's VE Day Flying Day, celebrating the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe following the Second World War.

One of the eagerly anticipated aircraft on display, albeit as a static asset, was the Douglas R4D-6S Skytrain, 'Ready 4 Duty'. R4D made the transatlantic flight at the end of April, starting at their home in Lancaster, Texas. They will be basing out of Duxford for the majority of their Navy to Victory tour of the UK and Europe. It was hoped that the aircraft would fly before and after the show, but sadly due to the crosswinds being out of limit, it wasn't to be. However, the public were still treated to a start-up and taxi both up and down the crowd line to allow everyone to see this beautiful example of a very rare derivative of the Douglas DC-3/C-47.
