Embroidered Yoke Ruffle Baby Frock Cutting & Stitching | Easy DIY Dress

Materials
• Lightweight cotton or linen (main) + small contrast for yoke/pockets
• Thread, sewing machine, scissors, pins, chalk, measuring tape
• Small embroidery floss (or pre-embroidered motif), elastic for sleeve, interfacing for yoke, zipper or buttons for back

Cutting — pieces to cut (add 1 cm SA)
• Front bodice with yoke — cut 1 on fold (or 2 halves if you want center back opening)
• Back bodice — cut 1 on fold (or 2 halves for closure)
• Sleeves — 2 flutter/puff sleeve pieces
• Skirt panels — wide rectangle (or two tiers): height = desired skirt depth; width = 2.5–3× bodice bottom (for gathers)
• Pocket — cut 2 (one facing) with lace trim allowance
• Facings / bias for neck & armholes; small strip for sleeve casing

Stitching — step-by-step (short & camera-ready)
1. Prepare yoke & embroidery: If embroidering, do it on the yoke piece now. Fuse interfacing to yoke back for stability. Finish yoke edges.
2. Sew shoulders: With right sides together, join front and back at shoulders. Press seams.
3. Attach sleeves: Finish sleeve edges; sew sleeves to armholes (gather slightly if puffed) or attach flutter sleeves flat. Finish armhole seams with bias/facing.
4. Side seams: Sew side seams of bodice and sleeves in one go if easier.
5. Make pockets: Finish pocket edges (add lace trim), place on skirt front and topstitch three sides, leaving the top open.
6. Prepare skirt: Hem bottom of skirt tiers. Run two basting stitches along the top of each skirt panel and gather until it matches the bodice bottom width.
7. Attach skirt to bodice: Pin gathered skirt evenly to bodice bottom, stitch, finish seam allowances, press.
8. Back closure: Add zipper or button placket to center back; finish neat placket or facing.
9. Sleeve finishing & elastic: If using elastic for puff cuffs, create narrow casings and insert elastic; otherwise hem flutter edges neatly.
10. Final finishing: Trim threads, topstitch visible edges for a polished look, press entire frock, check fit and adjust hem/gathers if needed.
