At 14:28 on May 12, 2008, a magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck Wenchuan, Sichuan, killing nearly 70,000 people and leaving 18,000 missing. This disaster has become an eternal pain in the hearts of the Chinese people.
17 years later, I came to the Wenchuan Yingxiu epicenter site, walked into the Xuankou Middle School site and the Earthquake Memorial Hall, and used my camera to record this land of pain and rebirth.
This site museum retains the original appearance of the earthquake - the tilted teaching building, the clock that always stops at 14:28, the broken bricks and tiles... Every trace silently tells the moment of tearing. But what is more touching is that today Wenchuan has stood up again, new houses have been built next to the ruins, and the streets are filled with smoke again.
This video was shot not only to commemorate the dead, but also to record the tenacity of life. When disasters become history, we commemorate them not to prolong grief, but to cherish the present, respect nature, and find the strength to move forward in reflection. This is a silent visit, but perhaps silence is the deepest condolence.
