THE DEVELOPMENT OF A PERSONAL CARE ROBOT

What needs to happen for a personal care robot to be developed? What companies are currently working on such a robot? In this episode we have the pleasure of talking with doctoral candidate, Kavita Krishnaswamy from the University of Maryland, Baltimore county who answers these questions and more. She is tirelessly working to get more technologies on the market that specifically serve the needs of those living with disabilities. She has developed designs for a bed that can help people move and turn (this would be vital in the prevention of pressure sores).

She also explains to us what are the unique hurdles that need to be won when developing a robot. A personal care robot would be vital for those with disabilities as there is technology that could be developed to help with cleaning around the house, dressing, bathing and grooming a human being. This type of robot has the potential for revolutionizing healthcare and personal care for those with disabilities.
