FULL PRESSER: Leavitt addresses Minnesota protests & ICE arrests, Trump healthcare plan, gas prices

Americans are getting some financial relief at gas pumps across the nation, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.

She said they are expected to spend $11 billion less on gas in 2026 when compared to last year, adding that prices have dropped to their lowest level since the coronavirus pandemic.

Leavitt said that will result in a savings of "hundreds of dollars" for the average family.

"President [Donald] Trump is making America affordable again through his proven economic formula," she said, in part, during an news conference on Thursday, adding that Trump has "defeated" former President Joe Biden's inflation "crisis."
"The national average price for a gallon of regular gas this week fell to its lowest level in five years thanks to President Trump's 'drill, baby, drill' agenda," she said.
Citing a recent GasBuddy report, Leavitt said the average price for gas was below $3 per gallon in 43 states, with prices dropping under $2 per gallon at stations in at least 19 states.

According to the GasBuddy report, the average household spending on gasoline in 2026 will be about $2,000. That’s the lowest figure since 2021, per the report.

“GasBuddy’s forecast projects the national average price of gas to fall to $2.97 per gallon in 2026, marking the fourth consecutive annual decline and the lowest average since 2020,” Patrick De Haan, who is the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, said in the report.

“This continued decrease reflects the unwinding of post-pandemic market distortions, expanding global refining capacity, and more stable supply chains,” he added.
