"O Sun" is an a cappella movement extracted from September Sun, a 20-minute work commissioned by St. Bartholomew's Church, New York City, in memory of those who perished in the tragedy of September 11, 2001.
The text is a poem by John Stirling Walker, who collaborated with
David Conte on eleven other works, including two operas and a
musical. David Conte is Professor of Composition at the San
Francisco Conservatory, and is one the country’s leading choral
composers. Of his vast output of choral music, this is one of my
absolute favorites.

Text
I. (Set to music in O Sun)
Grace, ceaseless and abounding,
Overwhelms us;
Descends, by way of
Death. Sweet, tragic death
Waited upon the rising Sun that
Enveloped, in its warmth, with its rays,
Lives, that morning,
Lived in expectation.
(Sweet, tragic life!)
Innocent lives, it took, those
Not so blessed, too, perhaps...yet...
Just as God's love shone
On good and bad alike, back then,
You shine, O Sun, you shine...
