Fixing our eyes on Lord Jesus Christ & looking above as new creation with the garments of salvation

It was during the early 60s that God was concerned about the vast majority of Christian youth who were neither challenged nor channeled. He burdened a handful of young students of the engineering college in Karaikudi, Tamilnadu, with His concern. He led them through wilderness training from 1963 to 1970. They called themselves as Gospel Team, with Bro. R. Stanley and Bro. A. Lionel as its main leaders. The members gathered around thorny bushes every evening for prayer and meditation and went out during weekends for evangelism. Fasting prayers, midnight intercessions, house-to-house tract distribution, cottage meetings and demon-casting became the favorites of these fire-brands. An outreach programme to Rameshwaram, a pilgrim center, broke their hearts to weep for the pagan land filled with superstitious beliefs. Little did they realize then that God in and through them was laying a foundation for a nationwide ministry.

This team gathered a few other young men of similar burden from Tiruchy, Madurai, Kovilpatti and Thoothukudi for a season of waiting before the Lord in October 1970. On the third morning the promise from Ezekiel 34:26 came as a prophetic utterance. “THERE SHALL BE SHOWERS OF BLESSING!” The plan of God began to unfold. "Who can despise the day of humble beginning?" (Zechariah 4:10)

The key men of this move met several times during 1971 to discuss the next step. They waited and prayed and consulted certain leaders. And then the Full Gospel Young Men Association (FGYMA) was registered in 1972 under the leadership of Bro. R. Stanley. FGYMA was so named because the message was the full gospel of Jesus Christ and the instruments were young men. Later a parallel set-up for women, Full Gospel Young Women Association (FGYWA), was organized. By full gospel, it was meant to present Christ in all His fullness as the Saviour, Healer, Baptizer, Lord, Pattern, Judge and King. But rather than denoting the message, the word “full-gospel” over the years picked up a denominational connotation. Therefore a change in the name became a must for the trans-denominational movement. It was thus renamed as Blessing Youth Mission (BYM) in 1987.

Objectives of the Mission

Churches must be revived.

The Bible must be given its due place.

The gifts and ministries of the holy spirit must be restored.

Youth must be reached and challenged.

Believers should unite forgetting their differences.

Every christian must become a personal soul-winner.

People of god should involve actively in neighbourhood evangelism.

All churches and fellowships must involve in fulfilling christ’s great commission

The poor and needy must be helped with christian love.

India must be totally evangelized in this generation.

What We Believe and Teach

The Bible is the Word of God; we must meditate on it regularly to know God and to overcome Satan.

God is Spirit. We must worship Him in Spirit and in truth.

Christ died for us, rose again on the third day and is now seated at the right hand of God as our Advocate. We are saved by faith on Him.

The Holy Spirit empowers us and equips us with His gifts and fruits for witness for Christ through our life and lip. We must stay filled with the Spirit.

Baptism in water is an act of obedience and answer of a good conscience. We must please God in everything, living in accordance with His will revealed in His Word.

All those who are born again are the Members of the Body of Christ, whatever denomination they belong to; we must accept and love one another as Christ loved us.

Christ is coming again very soon; we must be watchful in prayer and be faithful in our responsibility to fulfill the Great Commission.
