This is the 2nd part to a video where I share about the loss of our 22-year-old son in 2006. It was a traumatic motorcycle accident after a day at the lake. Now 19 years later I still have questions.
In the end is suffering about restoration? Deepens faith? Builds endurance?
“Suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” (Romans 5:3–4)
But when it's YOUR suffering, it can be a dark, foggy time trying to find that light at the end of preverbal tunnel.
Jesus directly rejected the idea that suffering always equals punishment.
“Neither this man nor his parents sinned… but this happened so that the works of God might be displayed.” (John 9:3)
How do you describe grief? Every person has their own way. How do you respond to loss? Every person has their own way.
Unbearable
Shattering
Soul-deep
Relentless
Unending
Grief evolves. Some call for closure. It is unending. There is no closure. There I said it. The 'The End' sign never shows up. Your journey evolves.
Long-term grief becomes quieter—but deeper.
You did not lose only a child.
You lost a future you imagined—and you have lived bravely in its absence.
Grief does not fade because love does not fade, and God has never asked you to forget the child He first entrusted to your heart. Even when years stretch long, Scripture reminds us that the Lord is close to the brokenhearted and attentive to tears others no longer see. Your sorrow is not a sign of weak faith but of deep love, faithfully carried through time. Today, rest in the truth that God holds both your child and your enduring love within His eternal care.

"When Momma's Cry, The Darkside of Yearning; Grief After the Loss of a Child" publication date was originally 2012 but some edits were made and re-published in 2014.
"When Mommas Cry - The Darkside of Yearning" is a poignant memoir by C. L. Snapp, which details the profound grief experienced after the loss of her son, Richard, at the age of 22. The book is not a memoir of the son but rather a mother's journey through the darkest hours, days, weeks, months, and even years following the loss. It shares the author's deepest thoughts and experiences as she copes with her 'new reality' and the profound yearning that follows such a loss. The book is a heartfelt exploration of grief, written from the mother's perspective, and is intended for those who have experienced similar losses and are seeking answers or solace.
