Dragon's Crest hike. Krabi, Thailand

Hiking in the jungle is different from what we are used to, starting from what you can see to what you can hear, not to mention what you can imagine. Dense vegetation, bamboo, poisonous trees, beautiful flowers, corpse smelling ones, coconut trees, vines and spines. 
Cicadas, termites and larvae, spiders the size of one's hand, centipedes and scorpios, frogs, snakes, small lizards or huge varans, angry birds or monkeys and sometimes elephants.
There is no second of silence there. The sounds of the jungle are definitely an important part of the experience. 
There are occasionally people exclamating (sometimes in awe) in the background and you know that's another tourist seeing 'something' unfamiliar.
And above all, the neverending heat and humidity that multiply the difficulty of any step you take. So you'll need a lot of water. But if you're ok with all this, it's a unique experience.


Dragon's Crest is maybe the best hike in the Krabi province of Thailand, which makes it very popular. The trail is well maintained considering the conditions and you have to check-in and check-out at the entrance. 

It is about 9 km long both ways and takes +-3h to complete, most of it goes through the jungle and the few viewpoints are situated towards the end. Although in the shadow, the heat is scorching, so the best time to go would be early morning.
