When coaching newer shooters, observations of the eyes is essential. Do they blink as the shot is fired? Does the focus drift to the target from the front sight during aiming? Are they doing follow through correctly? All these can be seen by the coach whilst observing the shooter during sighting. Small movements of the eyes during sighting are another way of confirming the shooter is looking over the "sights" to the target. Once the shot has been fired, to help with follow through, be sure the shooter follows the pistol to the bench with the eyes. This takes the compulsion to look at the target after shot release.
