St Davids in Pembrokeshire is the smallest city in Britain and has been a place of pilgrimage for centuries. It lies on the River Alun and it is the resting place of Saint David, Wales's patron saint, and named after him.
The remains of the Bishops of St Davids principle palace are located alongside the cathedral in the tranquil valley of the river Alun. This would have been the finest collection of buildings in Wales during the medieval period.
Solva is a delightful little village on the south side of St Davids Peninsula. The village is split into two separate areas, Upper Solva and Lower Solva.
At high tide, the beach is a narrow strip at the head of the inlet but at low tide the harbour is completely dry with the exception of a stream that runs down the middle of the harbour, providing hours of entertainment catching fish, shrimp and crabs.
