This 1959 Porsche 356A 1600 Carrera is one of a reported 346 GS “de Luxe” coupes built between 1956 and 1959 and is among 33 produced for the model year. Chassis 105294 is said to have been special-ordered by a US Air Force Master Sergeant stationed in Libya, where it was delivered via Porsche distributor Pagani on March 20, 1959, before moving with the first owner to Germany and then the US. It was gifted by its original owner while in hospice in Texas to his doctor, who in turn traded it to a former Indy 500 chief mechanic and shop owner in 1988. After undergoing a refurbishment between the late 1990s and early 2000s, the car was purchased by the Ingram Collection, with whom it earned an Amelia Award at the 2018 Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. After undergoing a repaint in the original shade of black between 2019 and 2020, the car garnered an Award of Speed and Style at the 2022 Greenwich Concours d’Elegance. Power is provided by a 1.6-liter Type 692/2 four-cam flat-four that features a plain-bearing crankshaft, dry-sump lubrication, and twin Solex carburetors. Additional features include a four-speed manual transaxle, Rudge-style center-lock wheels, front fog lamps, and red leather interior upholstery. This Carrera GS was purchased by its current owner in 2023 and is now offered on dealer consignment in East Durham, North Carolina, as part of the Gruppe P Part V collection with a copy of its Kardex, a Porsche Certificate of Production, a certificate of origin, a warranty card, a tool kit, and a clean California title.
