PALOBO is a courtship and game dance from San Narciso, Quezon Province that depicts the indirect expression of love through playful pairing between men and women.
It is a playful and indirect courtship dance where men and women form pairs, usually starting with an engaged couple. The man and woman dance while wearing hats, and after some time, the man transfers his hat to another man, and the woman transfers hers to another woman, signaling a shift in partners.
The gentlemen then dance to impress the ladies, who, while wearing hats, look for potential partners. If a woman accepts a man’s proposition, she places her hat on his head and secures a handkerchief on her shoulder or hip. The dance ends with the ladies offering the gentlemen coconut wine, symbolizing a budding romantic connection sparked by the playful pairings.
