When slicing whole pumpkin into wedges, you need a large, heavy-duty knife such as a cleaver. Cut the pumpkin in half, then carefully pierce the top of the pumpkin with the blade and slice downwards, following the grooves of the pumpkin, to cut into wedges. Use the paring knife to remove the seeds and membrane from the wedges.
