The 2018 Cabrinha Radar is a hugely efficient and versatile performance kite designed for entry level to early intermediate riders. What really makes the Cabrinha Radar stand out is it’s confidence inspiring stable, predictable flight and large wind range making it a perfect beginner kite that you can progress with.
The 2018 Cabrinha Radar is the perfect first time kite. Kitesurf schools all across the world use and trust this kite for complete beginners through to those looking to take to the air for the first time. The fear most people feel when they first start kitesurfing is due to the lift from the kite and it can be overwhelming for most. What sets the Cabrinha Radar apart from the rest of the Cabrinha line-up is that it produces very little lift at the 12 0’clock positon yet still delivers just the right amount of power to ride and progress your skills. The power delivery is incredibly smooth and well-mannered enabling you to ride through gusts and changeable wind conditions. This means more time riding and less time swimming as once you are up and riding the Cabrinha Radar you are afforded the time to learn and improve. The Cabrinha Switchblade may be faster in the window and jump higher but the Radar will allow you to progress and develop your jumping to respectable heights, although hang time is reduced due to the lack of pull at the top of the window. This lack of hang time does have its benefits though, as the Cabrinha Radar works well for those wanting to learn on a surf board and try their hand at hydro foil riding – making it kite for all disciplines that you will not out grow to readily.
Cabrinha Radar Wind Range -
The Cabrinha Radar is the perfect first kite and the most popular sizes are 9m and 12m. The 12m will get you up at 12 to 15 knots of wind and will push towards 22 to 25 knots. The 9m starts pulling 13 to 15 knots and will top out at 25 to 27 knots.
For your first kite you need to buy to your body weight and location. The general rule of thumb is to buy to your body weight in stone. For example, a 12 stone person will be a 12m kite. That’s if you are going to buy one kite and live in the UK. Bigger kites may seem scary, but the bigger the kite the lighter the wind and the better the weather tends to be adding more security and fun to your session. If you buy a 7m kite it will feel safe but it pushes toward stronger gustier conditions that are less to conducive to learning.
