My favourite carnatic krithi is "Nagumomu Ganaleni" composed by Saint Thyagaraja. I have listened to the Nagumomus of M S Subba lakshmi, Mangalampally Balamuralikrishna, Bombay Sisters, Priya Sisters, Unnikrishnan, and Yesudas, besides others.
When I discovered this version by Susheela Raman from my friend Karuna, I was totally besotted with the way she has interpreted Nagumomu in Jazz! The lyrics may have been ripped apart, but the melancholy feel of the song has been retained. But more than her vocals, it is the mindblowing orchestration, the soft strumming guitar intro, complemented by the caressing tabla that has inspired me to create this video.
And it was on one of those rainy days in Hyderabad I shot this video around the 700 year old Sita Rama temple near Shamshabad. Thanks to Bhargavi for her support with the wardrobe and styling while enthusiastic Vithika's performance complements through out.
Hope you all enjoy this attempt of mine.
