Recognized as one of the "fathers of the internet," sharing this title with American computer scientist Bob Kahn with whom he invented the TCP/IP protocol; Cerf is a renown American computer scientist. From 1973 to 1978 Cerf and Kahn funded and developed TCP/IP communications and contributed greatly to the Internet as we know it today. Cerf was instrumental in the development of the first commercial e-mail system (MCI Mail) connected to the Internet. In addition, he was instrumental in funding and forming ICANN from the start.

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.
