Born in Kirkintilloch and trained at the Glasgow School of Art, Willie Rodger (1930–2018) was one of the most significant printmakers in recent Scottish art history. Gifted by The Willie Rodger Art Trust, The Hunterian collections now hold a significant body of work which span his entire career.
The selection of over 200 prints and drawings highlight Rodger's humour and playfulness. They display a variety of techniques, from wood and linocuts, etching, screenprint, frottage, drawing and collage. The collection includes unique impressions, original sketches, artist proofs – illustrating the different stages of the printmaking process, and Rodger's creativity as a printmaker.
The subject matters are wide ranging, touching on religion, politics, ethics, popular culture, family life, Glasgow, football and universal themes such as life, death, fear and more!
