The Doppler Effect or Doppler Shift is the apparent change in frequency of sound when there is relative motion between source of sound and an observer. Austrian physicist Christian Doppler described this phenomenon in 1842. The perceived frequency can be greater, lesser or stay the same based on various cases involving source and observer. What happens if source or observer is moving at the speed of sound in a given medium? This results in interesting consequences pertaining to what sound is heard and when it is heard. Learn more about this effect in this video.
