United Airlines Flight 1250, an Airbus A319 bound for Indianapolis, had to abort its climb out of Chicago O’Hare after pilots reported an electrical burning odor in the cockpit. The flight crew made the quick decision to return to O’Hare, landing safely on runway 28C.
In this video, Captain Steeeve breaks down what happened, why pilots treat any smoke or burning smell in the cockpit as a serious emergency, and what procedures come into play during a smoke/fire/fumes event. He also explains how ground services inspect the aircraft, and what passengers might have experienced during the sudden return.
This incident shows just how fast situations can develop in aviation, and how training and quick decision-making keep passengers safe.
