Our Tiny AC vs. The Apocalypse Heatwave! (EcoFlow Wave 2 Shenanigans in Betty)

Welcome back to Enigma Expeditions Chronicles, where we document our hilariously chaotic lives as we prepare to conquer the Americas in our trusty (and heavily insulated!) expedition motorhome, Bêtty! With a whopping 2 inches of foam insulation on both sides, 5 inches up top, and 4 inches below, you'd think we'd be immune to anything. But as we've learned the hard way (thanks, physics!), Bêtty still manages to get cold in the winter and hot in the summer.

Enter the glorious, mighty (and slightly underpowered for our dreams) EcoFlow Wave 2! Join us on a hilarious, last-minute quest to stay cool before a heatwave bears down. While we think the Wave 2 will work, even its compact size has presented a new, absurd challenge: it might be too big for its planned resting place! We've been racking our brains (and banging our knuckles) trying to figure out an under-bench seating solution, even attempting to connect it to our diesel parking heater ducting. Spoiler alert: it's not looking like a snug fit.

So, for now, watch the temporary absurdity unfold as we Frankenstein the Wave 2 onto our countertop with a bizarre but brilliant combo of corrugated plastic sandwiching NGX foam, and an outer layer of Reflectix to place in the kitchen window for the ducting. And for the pièce de résistance? A hand-crafted Reflectix exhaust tube cover to keep the hot air out of Betty's habitat! We're even pondering one-way mirror tint film for our windows – because who needs privacy AND insulation?

Did our mad science work? Well, the EcoFlow Wave 2 did keep Betty a blissful 76°F during the heatwave... while plugged into shore power...and could probably go to 70°F. So, it was a "successful test," but now comes the existential RV question: Do we keep wrangling with this clever, power-sipping marvel despite its size issues, or do we finally bite the bullet and install a proper 12v AC, minisplit, or heat pump? We still need to tackle cooling the cab, despite the large windows and roof vent...
