In this ambitious survival project, I challenge myself to construct two distinct shelters: a house hand-carved into a vertical cliff and a fortified underground sanctuary built with stone and wood by a flowing stream. The first phase focuses on the precision of carving into the cliffside using only manual tools, creating an elevated living space that offers both security and a strategic vantage point. By working with the natural contours of the rock, I manage to establish a stable foundation and smooth interior walls, ensuring the structure remains hidden and perfectly integrated into the rugged terrain.
The second part of the build takes place at the water's edge, where I use heavy timber and local stones to engineer a durable underground shelter. This phase highlights the importance of moisture control and structural reinforcement when building near a stream, utilizing stone masonry for the walls and thick logs for the ceiling. Throughout the process, I demonstrate how to harmonize these two different environments into a complete wilderness homestead. This video is a masterclass in primitive engineering, showcasing the grit and skill required to turn raw natural elements into safe, warm, and permanent survival homes.
