The U.S. Justice Department, charged to “uphold the rule of law, to keep our country safe and to protect civil rights,” is increasingly at the center of partisan disputes. Nancy Gertner, a retired federal judge now teaching at Harvard Law School, and George T. Conway III, a lawyer and Atlantic Monthly contributor, discussed the unprecedented pressures facing the country's legal institutions under Trump's presidency and whether the legal system is being permanently transformed. Tiziana Dearing, host of Morning Edition, moderated the discussion.
