VENICE BEACH – Friday, March 21, 2025 – On Friday morning, as the sun cast its first light over the Venice Beach Boardwalk, local street resident Chip Monk was stirring awake. Santa Monica Closeup encountered Monk as he gathered his belongings, preparing to move along.

Monk, a well-known figure in the Venice Beach community, took a moment to chat while packing up his possessions. Santa Monica Closeup’s photojournalist, Fabian Lewkowicz, engaged him in conversation, discussing his experiences, daily interactions, and personal reflections on life in Venice.

This encounter is part of an ongoing series documenting Monk’s journey—offering an unfiltered look at life on the streets, from philosophical musings to interactions with law enforcement and impromptu performances.
