Scientists Drained Niagara Falls in 1969 And Made an Amazing Discovery

In the summer and fall of 1969, the American side of Niagara Falls stayed without water for 6 months. Researchers drained the falls to study the rock face. They were afraid it was going to become too unstable because of erosion. It took a 600 feet dam across the enormous Niagara River to really shut down these astonishing falls. This means they had to divert 60,000 gallons of water every second so that the remaining flow traveled over the biggest Horseshoe Falls.
