Igọ Ọji, Itụ Nzu And Pouring Of Libation Protocols In Igbo Culture
Whether at home or in the diaspora, every Igboman should have in his house Ọkwa Nzu and all other items required, and be ready at all times to perform the traditional Igọ Ọji, Itụ Nzu and pouring of libation protocols.
Through these trinity of Igbo traditional protocols, we pray to God and also commune with our ancestors. This is how our forefathers did it and we are keeping that tradition alive.
During my visit to the family of my younger brother Ogbunaechendo in Wellingborough, he did us the honours as Onye Nze. Yes, I may be his elder brother but it was fully his right in his house (Obu) to break the kolanut because an Igbo proverb says that ‘Mmadu ayara awu nwata na anu ogbu lu’, meaning that a man can not be called a child when it comes to sharing portions of meat from the animal he brought home.
