Follow the transformation of the waterways of Puʻuloa, the area now known as Pearl Harbor on Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi, from a vibrant hub of abundance to a polluted industrial zone. Told through the voices of Hawaiian farmers, fishermen, and activists, the film reveals the impacts of militarization and environmental degradation on this historic land and its waters. Highlighting the revival of Native Hawaiian practices and the ongoing struggle for restoration, the documentary envisions a future where the land and waters of Puʻuloa are once again fertile and thriving.
'HOMEGROWN: A Part Of/Apart From' is a collection of short films from the U.S. territories and Hawaiʻi exploring issues of cultural identity, sovereignty, and agency, as residents and members of the diaspora grapple with what it means to be “a part of and apart from” the mainland U.S.
