Fantasia II for Renaissance Guitar
Considered the most extraordinary piece in the renaissance guitar repertoire this elaborate fantasia pushes the instrument to its capacity for counterpoint. Albert de Rippe was one of the greatest lutenists and composers of his age and in the work brings this "simple" little four-course instrument up to a level rivalling the great repertoire of the lute. A truly sublime piece.
The majority of the works of Albert de Rippe were published posthumously by his pupil Guillaume de Morlaye, including this fantasia which is found in his Fourth Book book of works for Renaissance Guitar - Le Quatriesme Livre.
Here the work is performed on a 5-course renaissance guitar based on the Belchior Dias model, built by Barbara Ferloni
