This week looks at Taiwan being pulled in every direction by larger global forces. Europe wants deeper access to Taiwan’s semiconductor ecosystem. U.S. strategists want Taiwan more involved in first island chain defense planning. Democracies like France want to copy Taiwan’s disinformation model.
But Taiwan also pushed back by asserting its own direction: a NT$30B AI plan to strengthen the future economy, a renewed commitment to vocational talent, and a defense doctrine built around the T-Dome — not external demands. And as political pressures rise, Taiwan reaffirmed the importance of protecting its democratic autonomy, rejecting calls for nationality exemptions that could blur allegiance requirements.
