Annakan explains what a nasal septoplasty is and how it might help people with a deviated nasal septum breathe better.
A deviated nasal septum can cause a symptoms of nasal blockage and therefore significantly interfere with the ability to breathe through the nose. It can restrict exercise, affect sleeping and cause snoring in some cases.
A nasal septoplasty is a very commonly performed operation that will straighten a deviated nasal septum and improve nasal breathing.
In this video, I explain what a nasal septoplasty operation, the steps involved in the surgery and why it helps patients with a deviated septum. I've created straight forward animations to help with the explanation and use a cheese sandwich analogy (taught to me when I first started surgical training).
