The first album of this teutonic act unfurls as a twilight banner, woven from the contrasting fibres of black metal’s austerity and a warmer, earthbound heavy metal with elements of hard rock. Rather than sharpening its sound into the typical frostbitten edge, this act tempers its ferocity with a gentler and more harmonious soundscape, allowing harmonies to bloom where others would sow only harshness.

Across these tracks, Knochenhorde wanders freely through shifting tonal pastures, as occasional folk elements rise and bring the sudden intimacy of an acoustic passage, the ancient call of a bagpipe, or the solemnity of clean vocals drifting above the storm. These touches lend the music an almost mythological taste, and certainly resemble some output from their compatriots, Horn, that also sometimes take this kind of approach.

At times, these softer edges may seem to threaten black metal severity, yet beneath this milder veneer lies striking craftsmanship as guitars and bass coil and unwind with a dramatic purpose, bathing everything in a warm, organic glow that amplifies the album’s emotional cadence, shaping the record into a contemplative journey rather than a mere display of force, inviting reflection as much as exhilaration.
