I hated my Accounting Internship. (And here's why)

Today we will be discussing why I hated my accounting internship. From toxic coworkers, to lack of work life boundaries, and more! Just as a disclaimer, this was just MY experience. The issues I discuss are really common in the workplace, but that does not mean if you enter public accounting they will happen to you. I definitely do not want to scare anyone away from public accounting!

It is also not my intent to bash the co-worker or the firm. As I mentioned in the video, I am still working for the firm until I leave for graduate school, and overall it has been a really good experience to work there. But in this video, we are just talking about problems that happened with the internship.

I know a question I might get is, why didn't I speak up to the managing partner about some of these issues. The truth is, I was very close to reaching out to HR over some of the sexist comments made, but I felt like I wouldn't be listened to or taken seriously because I was just an intern. It didn't help that everyone in the office loved this guy, and the ones who could see his unprofessional behavior didn't seem to mind. I genuinely feel like I was the only one who had a problem with his behavior and comments. I feel confident that if this sort of thing were to happen in the future at my next job, I will be able to voice my concerns to management. But in this situation, I just really didn't feel comfortable.
