📍 Location: Castelrotto/Kastelruth, South Tyrol, Italy Castelrotto/Kastelruth, located in the South Tyrol region, welcomed our family with warmth and kindness. The area’s natural beauty is so captivating that it beckons you to return. Located about 20km from the city of Bolzano, Castelrotto is easily accessible by car, car hire, or excellent public buses. Note that the South Tyrol is semi-autonomous, with three official languages: Italian, German, and Ladin. Towns often go by both their Italian and German names, and the locals typically speak German first and Italian second. During our travels here, we found that English is also widely understood.

🏔️ Bronze Age Settlement and Multilingual Heritage: Castelrotto/Kastelruth has a rich history, dating back to the Bronze Age. Artifacts from that era have been discovered in the surrounding area. As you explore, you’ll encounter signs reflecting the multilingual character of the South Tyrol. Our episode even features a special guest co-host in the last third of the video.
