We are very glad to show you one of the most authentic villages in Sicily, Cattolica Eraclea, in the province of Agrigento (south of Sicily). The village was fonded on May 24, 1611 but its heritage is even older. Cattolica Eraclea is located few miles far from Eraclea Minoa, a Greek colony in the period of Magna Grecia (7th century BC).

Cattolica Eraclea has a nice old center with beautiful squares, narrow streets and historic palaces. It boasts also amazing surroundings with a pristine nature. First of all Mt. San Calogero where people from Cattolica Eraclea use to celebrate the “Calvario” (the Way of the Cross of Jesus Christ). Few miles far from the town there is the amazing area of Eraclea Minoa with an outstanding white cliff, a pristine beach with clear waters and the nice Platani rivers's mouth.

Many people from Cattolica Eraclea emigrated to Canada and USA in the last century. In particular, Montreal boasts the biggest community of “Cattolicesi” with more than 7,000 people. In general, more than 12,000 people from Cattolica Eraclea live in Canada and other thousands in the USA.

We are so happy to have included in this video a beautiful Sicilian song dedicated to Cattolica Eraclea composed and performed by Lillo Palumbo.

A special thank to Salvatore Palumbo (Lillo Palumbo's son) and Giuseppe Terrasi (town hall council member), who showed us Cattolica Eraclea and brought us to Mt. San Calogero and Eraclea Minoa.
