1931 Alvis TK 12/60 Beetleback (Henrietta) by Carbodies
A proper Vintage sports car in mellow and very usable condition yet presenting extremely well in Navy Blue with black wheels.
The 12/60 was the final iteration of the legendary 12/50 – one of the finest Vintage sports cars and a byword for high quality engineering. Improvements over the 12/50 included coil ignition, electric fuel pump and a rear mounted fuel tank.
The essence of a vintage Alvis is how it feels on the road and this car delivers on that score. The steering, handling and ride are all first class while the 1,645cc engine provides ample power and torque. The four speed crash gearbox is pleasant to use and as a clutch stop is fitted, lightning fast upward changes are possible. Double declutching is necessary when changing down.
The engine has recently had a top end overhaul at Red Triangle Services. It starts instantly and shows correct oil pressure; it All the instruments are working with the exception of the fuel gauge, a common enough affliction on cars of this age.
There is full weather equipment with the car including sidescreens and a tonneau. The hood neatly stows away in a compartment behind the seats and is invisible when not in use. There is a lockable cover in the tail which provides access to the single dickey seat and storage space. There is additional luggage space behind the seats and a stowage compartment for tools under the driver’s seat. The grey interior is in good condition and the navy blue carpet has recently been fitted.
The brightwork is in very good condition and the Firestone tyres have recently been replaced. Direction indicators, a battery isolator and an electric fan have been fitted. The wiring is contained within the correct armoured cabling.
The car spent many years in the Yorkshire Car Collection in Keighley. Subsequently it has been properly used including some European touring.
There is an interesting history file accompanying the car with many photos of restoration work over the years as well as a buff log book, original 12/50 Instruction Book and correspondence from previous owners.
The Alvis is eligible for all manner of events including those of the VSCC and enjoys excellent support from both the 12/50 Register and Alvis Owners Club.
