Newt and Tris met each other before that maze trials and before the choosing ceremony. In this universe, the same people that put Newt in the maze, put Tris in the Divergent world. Both of their memories were erased when they were put in these new worlds but they still get memories of each other triggered. Tris goes to her brother and tells him of the dreams she has of a boy and he tells her to forget them. Newt tells the guys of the memories she has of a girl and Gally doesn't want to hear it but Thomas believes its important. Newt starts remembering more clearly and they both finally escape the worlds they were put in. Proving that they are the best minds in both worlds. Finally they meet outside of Dauntless and the maze but Tris doesn't remember Newt. Newt knows that Tris and him know each other but isn't sure if it was all in his head because all she wants is Thomas.
SPOILER:
WCKD changed all of Tris's memories so that she thought that Thomas was the one in all of her memories, to further experiment with how their minds would deal with the new situation. Movies : The Maze Runner 2014 and Divergent 2014. Song: Wings by Birdy. Characters: Newt, Tris Prior and Thomas.
