Why is Mean Girls' Regina George so miserable? One increasingly popular explanation is that she’s fed up with her constant performance of Compulsory Heterosexuality, or Comphet -- leading us to ponder, “Could we read her as queer?"

Whether she’s ultimately queer or just unhappy with her culture’s unstated “rules” of how girls are expected to act, her dedicated performance of Compulsory Heterosexuality is a major reason why she’s so hostile, destructive and mean.
