Instead of flowers or brunch, Amanda had one Mother's Day request: take the family hiking. So we headed to Upper Calf Creek Falls near Boulder, Utah - the quieter, less crowded alternative to the famous Lower Falls.
What started as a simple family hiking adventure became something much more entertaining when our 9-year-old decided to hijack the camera at Anasazi State Park Museum. The result? Pure comedy gold and a reminder that sometimes the best family moments happen when kids take control.
After exploring the falls and cooling off in the natural pools, we wandered through the museum where ancient artifacts sparked endless questions from curious kids. But when Kenzie grabbed the camera and started her own "documentary," the real adventure began.
This isn't a polished travel guide - it's our actual Mother's Day while boondocking near Boulder, Utah. Complete with kid commentary, questionable camera work, and the kind of authentic family chaos that makes the best memories.
Upper Calf Creek Falls offers everything families need: manageable 3-mile roundtrip hike, stunning waterfall payoff, and swimming holes that keep kids happy for hours. Plus it's far less crowded than its famous cousin downstream.
What adventures do your wives request for Mother's Day? Sometimes the simple ones are the best ones.
New family adventures every Saturday at 2pm MST.
