Tire self sufficiency - how to change a bus tire yourself, while out on the road.

I've found that this is the "easy" way to change a tire on the road...well, easier than some methods I've tried. I'm 60 and I just can't muscle a tire and wheel around like I used to...so I've found that using a torque multiplier and a shovel makes the job manageable.

I think every bus owner should have these in their tool bay: A jack, a torque multiplier, a short-handled shovel, and some good wood blocks. For less than $200, you can be self sufficient out on the road...or out in the boondocks.

If you have these tools and dual wheels on the back of your coach or skoolie, you essentially have two spare tires with you. You definitely need to travel at a safe speed if you move a rear wheel to the front (leaving only one wheel and tire on one side of the rear)...but at least you can get to a tire shop and not be stranded.

NOTE: The comments I made about moving a rear tire to the front cannot legally apply to a passenger bus if the rear tires are recapped. It isn't legal to have a recap on the front of a bus. But if your "bus" is no longer a passenger-carrying bus, by definition, then that wouldn't apply.
