Mixing the Crimson time streams once more, Alex Mundy has crossed KC in the studio during the Islands recording sessions in 1971 and KC on stage in 2015 to create an unusual and intriguing version of The Letters.
Beginning with Boz’s studio vocal swapping alternate lines of Peter Sinfield's lyric with Jakko’s live performance, the blowing section highlights a mix of guide and actual takes of Robert’s studio guitar. At the same time, Mel’s 2015 baritone gets especially dark and deep in an edited solo.
The end section, with Boz and Jakko now singing in unison, also features Mel’s original flute and some disconsolate piano chords, which were recorded by Keith Tippett in 1971 but were not used in the album's final version. Repeated listening is recommended.
