SP 18 made its last revenue run on the Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad on August 4, 2019. The day before, volunteers of the Carson & Colorado Railway got to rider behind her.
SP 18 was leased by the D&S to learn about operations of oil burning locomotives because they are converting D&RGW 493 to burn oil for use in times of high fire danger. 493 is expected to be operational in late 2019.
SP 18 will return to Independence, CA but her crew hopes that she can run on other narrow gauge railroads such as the Cumbres & Toltec.
