Vegetable Dumplings Ingredients
For the Dough
• 3 cups all-purpose flour
• ½ teaspoon salt
• Warm water (to form a soft but firm dough)
For the Filling
• ¼ large cabbage, finely chopped
• 3 medium carrots, grated
• 1 medium onion, chopped
• 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
• ½ teaspoon fresh red pepper, chopped
• Garlic, finely grated
• Spices of choice: paprika, curry powder, Royco (½ teaspoon each)
• 1 teaspoon salt
• 1 tablespoon dark soy sauce
• 5 tablespoons cooking oil
For the Sauce
• 5 tablespoons soy sauce
• 2 tablespoons vinegar
• ¼ teaspoon fresh red pepper (or as preferred)
• ½ teaspoon garlic, grated
• 1 teaspoon brown sugar
• 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
• 2 tablespoons water

🥟 Vegetable Dumplings Recipe | Homemade and Flavorful
Method
1. Prepare the Dough
In a large bowl, combine 3 cups all-purpose flour and ½ teaspoon salt.
Gradually add warm water while mixing until you form a soft but firm dough.
Knead lightly, cover the dough, and let it rest for 15–20 minutes.

2. Prepare the Filling
Heat 5 tablespoons of oil in a large pan over medium heat.
Add the chopped onion and sauté until tender.
Stir in the grated garlic and cook until it turns lightly golden.
Add the chopped tomatoes, stirring to combine.
Cover and cook on low heat for a few minutes until the tomatoes soften.
Stir and gently crush the tomatoes with your wooden spoon to form a thick, rich sauce.
Add salt and spices (paprika, curry powder, Royco) and cook for another 1–2 minutes to blend the flavors.
Add a few drops of water to keep the sauce moist.
Stir in the grated carrots and cook for 1 minute.
Finally, add the chopped cabbage, stirring until well incorporated with the rest of the ingredients.
Cover, lower the heat, and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally.
Remove from heat and allow the filling to cool slightly.

3. Shape the Dumplings
Lightly knead the rested dough for a few minutes until smooth.
Roll it out on a lightly dusted surface to a thin sheet—thin enough to handle but not tear.
Cut into round shapes using a cutter or an improvised round object (a donut-sized rim works well).
Spoon about one tablespoon of filling onto each round piece of dough.
Fold over half of the dough to cover the filling and press the edges firmly to seal (you can crimp or pinch for design).
Place the dumplings on a well-dusted tray or surface to prevent sticking.
(This recipe makes about 35 pieces.)

4. Boil the Dumplings
In a large pot, bring water to a boil.
Gently drop in half of the dumplings.
As they rise to the surface, let them boil for 3 minutes.
Remove with a slotted spoon and place on a wide, lightly oiled tray or platter to prevent sticking.
Repeat the process with the remaining dumplings.

5. Make the Sauce
In a small bowl, combine:

5 tablespoons soy sauce
2 tablespoons vinegar
¼ teaspoon fresh red pepper (or to taste)
½ teaspoon grated garlic
1 teaspoon brown sugar
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2 tablespoons water

Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is well blended.

6. Serve and Enjoy
Drizzle the sauce over the dumplings or serve it on the side for dipping.
