Approving a law at the European level is as complex as you might imagine 🤯
There are three institutions involved: the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union.
1️⃣ The European Commission gathers input from other EU institutions, Member States and citizens and proposes a new law.
2️⃣ The Parliament and the Council review it and can propose changes.
3️⃣ For the new law to be approved, the Parliament and the Council need to agree on the content. There can be several rounds to try to find a compromise, but if they fail the law is rejected.
European laws have a direct impact in our lives and the European Parliament plays a central role in their definition.
🗳️Your vote in the European elections (6 – 9 June) will decide the new members of the European Parliament 👉 you can have a say in who will shape the future European rules.
