Abstract: Have you thought about offering undergraduate level courses for high school students? Do you teach college mathematics courses to high school students? The Distance Math Program at Georgia Tech offers a set of undergraduate mathematics courses to over 1,200 high school students across Georgia, many of whom have exhausted their options for math courses before their senior year of high school. Five core mathematics courses are taught in our program: pre-calculus, linear algebra, multivariable calculus, applied combinatorics, and differential equations. Students in this program complete in-person proctored paper exams at their high schools, group projects, and engage with college faculty without ever having to travel to campus. Students who complete our courses gain Georgia Tech credit while still in high school, gain exposure to college culture, and many of our alumni go on to enroll at Georgia Tech. In this talk we will give an overview on how our program runs behind the scenes. We will share some of our current challenges, recent changes, possible future directions, and some of the unexpected benefits we have seen from offering this program.
