The Collectors were one of the hippest bands to emerge from the 1960’s Vancouver music scene, basking in the inspired soundwaves emanating from San Francisco and LA in the mid to late 1960’s. In the first of a 2 part interview conducted by myself and Rob Frith in the basement of Neptoon Records, Collectors lead singer Howie Vickers takes us through the bands rise to success on the west coast music scene, his road to that success in earlier bands such as the Four Quarters, the Viscounts and the Classics and his time as a regular on Canadian TV’s Let’s Go series. In 1966 the group that would become the Collectors came together at the Torch Cabaret, recorded some demos and left for LA to play shows and record their first album for Warner Brothers. Howie also talks about working on the Electric Prunes Mass in F Minor album with producer Dave Hassinger and composer David Axelrod.
