When an inebriated Korris tries to confront Cornelia, he is imprisoned; Ashur grudgingly confesses to him his part in Opiter's demise, which infuriates Korris, but Ashur consents to assist him in exacting revenge on Proculus. In return for the money, Ashur goes back to Cornelia and once more promises to support Thermus' marriage to Viridia. Proculus and Ashur exchange bids during the auction, with Ashur winning. However, after learning from Cossutia that Ashur told Gabinius to reject the marriage, Cornelia withdraws her support, and Proculus takes home the land.
As Korris notices Opiter's pendant on Satyrus, the head of the Brothers Ferox, Ashur informs Cossutia of Proculus' involvement in Opiter's demise. When Cossutia confronts Proculus, she reveals that she despises Ashur more and lays a trap for him. Ashur, Korris, and his gladiators repel an ambush by the men of the Brothers Ferox and Proculus. Satyrus is left alive to carry a message to Proculus after Korris murders two of the brothers. Korris's position as Doctore is restored.
