BSA 650 Gold Star - Something Different

The first time i tried the BSA Gold Star I loved it. A year later I tried it again and found it to be just as pleasurable as the first time. So to get a third bite of the cherry and to have a couple of weeks with it, I was already excited. Would I, or could I possibly still feel the same and even manage to sum up how I feel about it.

What I found was that whether by luck or judgment, for me, it strikes the perfect balance between classic and modern. There is enough ‘rough’ to let you know you are riding a motorcycle, and enough ‘smooth’ to keep you riding it for long distances and wanting to get back on. This applies to the feel, comfort, noise and handling. In short, it looks good, goes and stops well, and has been a pleasure to have in the garage. In fact, all the time I had it, just about every time I opened the garage, it was the bike I got on.

The BSA Gold Star 650 features a liquid-cooled, single-cylinder, DOHC engine with 4 valves and twin spark plugs, producing 45 hp at 6500 rpm and 55 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. The bike has a 5-speed transmission and liquid cooling. Braking is handled by a single 320mm floating disc with Brembo twin-piston calipers and ABS in the front, and a single 255mm disc with Brembo single-piston calipers and ABS in the rear. The suspension consists of 41mm telescopic forks in the front and twin shock absorbers with 5-step adjustable preload in the rear. The Gold Star weighs 213 kg (wet).
