It was a blast spending our morning with Mike as he dropped knowledge about his Torino. The heat finally broke in Las Vegas making it a perfect morning for a cruise with the top down!
During the episode we learned that Mike’s Torino is a SURVIVOR CAR... The only thing changed has been the convertible top, and the Torino is numbers matching!
Click play on the video and prepare to step into the world of automotive rarity with the 1970 Ford Torino GT Convertible. This stunning example represents just 0.5% of all Torino’s produced that year, making it a true collector's gem. The Torino, introduced in 1968 as an upscale version of the Fairlane, quickly became Ford's intermediate muscle car contender. By 1970, it had evolved into a performance icon, with the GT model standing at the pinnacle of style and power.
The 1970 model year marked a significant redesign for the Torino, featuring a longer hood, short deck styling, and a range of potent engine options. This GT Convertible has the Cleveland 351. With its sleek lines, optional hideaway headlights, and open-top freedom, this Torino GT Convertible isn't just a car – it's a rolling piece of American muscle car history, representing an era when performance, style, and the thrill of the open road reigned supreme.
Okay…. So what makes it rarer then 99.5% of all Torino’s made that year?
Ford built 230,411 Torinos across four trim levels in 1970.
60,758 were Torino GT's.
Of those 3,939 were convertibles.
And out of those 3,939 convertibles only 1,191 had the optional Hidden Headlights.
So…. 1 of 1,192 convertibles made out of 230,411 total cars, it would represent approximately 0.52% of the total production. WOW!
A Few other stand out features:
Powerful 351-2V Cleveland V8 engine
Distinctive Medium Blue Metallic paint (Ford #3319-A), one of just 597 with this color.
Hideaway Headlamps for a sleek, streamlined look.
Built at the Ford Lorain Assembly Plant in Ohio.
F70X14 Belted White Sidewall Tires for that classic muscle car stance.
Power Front Disc Brakes for improved stopping power.
Full Tinted Glass package for comfort and style.
Visibility Light Group for enhanced safety and aesthetics.
Produced on December 15, 1969, making it an early production model for the 1970 year.
